2018 Rules Procedures & Modifications for Southern Ohio Middle School Girls Lacrosse

The Southern Ohio Middle School Girls Lacrosse Association (SOMSGLA) is the Governing body for MS Girls Lacrosse in Southern Ohio

MS girls lacrosse in Southern Ohio uses the 2018 U.S. Lacrosse (USL) youth rules for U14 girls lacrosse with modifications.

 

SOMSGLA 2018 Rules Modifications:

  1. Game Length

    1. Two 25-minute halves with a 5-minute half-time

      • During the first half, the clock stops only for time-outs.

      • During the second half,

        • The clock stops only for time-outs during the first 23 minutes of the half

        • During the last 2 minutes of the second half

          • The clock stops on all whistles when a team leads by less than 10 goals

          • The clock only stops for time-outs if a team leads by 10 or more goals

    2. Time-outs

      • Each team may request one time-out per half

      • Time-outs requested by a team will be 90 seconds in length

  2. Mercy Rule

    1. When a team leads by 4 or more goals, the team with fewer goals may elect to restart play after a goal with a free position at the center instead of a draw.

    2. The head coach of the team with fewer goals must request the free position in lieu of a draw

    3. The free position will administered per the USL set-up procedure for an illegal draw

  3. Modified Checking rules be used in both levels of MS games

  • Dangerous Follow Through

  • Dangerous Propelling​

  • Illegal Defensive Positioning

  • Game Management

 

Suspensions and Ejections

  1. Suspension – Person receives 2 Yellow cards

    1. Player

      • Serves her second penalty and remains in her team’s bench area during the remainder of that game

      • She may participate in her team’s next game

    2. Head Coach

      • Shall leave the area of the game to include the spectator area

      • An assistant coach must take over for the game to continue

  2. Ejection – Person receives 1 Red card.  

    1. Player

      • Serves her penalty and remains in her team’s bench area during the remainder of that game

      • She shall not compete in her teams’ next game

    2. Head Coach

      • Shall leave the area of the game to include the spectator area

      • If ejected due to bench decorum (i.e., spectator, assistant coach), both the adult offender(s) and head coach shall be removed from the area of the game

      • An assistant coach must take over for the game to continue

      • Shall not participate in games per SOMSGLA misconduct guidelines

    3. Official’s Responsibilities

 

Rating/Reporting Officials:

  1. Officials need feedback in order to improve their performance. Therefore, head coaches are encouraged to provide post-game feedback on SOWLUA’s umpire evaluation form.

  2. A head coach may request that an official not officiate his/her team(s) home games. The head coach must complete a Block Request Form and email it to the SOWLUA board (sowlua@gmail.com).

Cancellations Game Fees:​

  • $0 - If a weekday game is cancelled by 2pm on game day.

  • $0 - If a weekend game is cancelled before midnight on Friday before the game.

  • $20 per Official - If a weekday game is cancelled after 2pm on game day & before the official  arrives at the venue

  • $20 per Official - If a weekend game is cancelled after midnight on Friday and before the official arrives at the venue.

  • If the game is cancelled after the official arrived at the venue, the official shall be paid the full fee for the first game.
